Vadodara: Curtains fell on the resignation drama that had started last week regarding the resignation of Padra’s former BJP MLA as Baroda Dairy’s chairman.
It was last week that Padra’s former BJP MLA Dinesh Patel alias Dinu Mama in a recorded video had declared that since he is taking retirement from active politics, he is also resigning as chairman of Baroda Dairy – a post that he was holding since over four years and a half.
The former MLA had declared that while he will relinquish the post of chairman, he will continue as director in the dairy’s board.
On Tuesday, the board of the Baroda District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited had convened an emergency board meeting to discuss the resignation letter submitted by Patel.
Hundreds of supporters of the former MLA thronged the Baroda Dairy premises urging the board members not to accept Patel’s resignation. “Our board has unanimously resolved that we will not accept our chairman’s resignation,” said Baroda Dairy’s vice-chairman G B Solanki.
The board members said that the dairy co-operatives do not require involvement in active politics and so Patel should continue as chairman of the board.
Later, Patel, who had not arrived at the dairy to attend the board meeting, also arrived at the premises and met the other board members and his supporters.
The former MLA had lost in the assembly polls last year against Congress’ Jaspalsinh Thakor. In the video message that he had recorded, Patel had blamed “some friends” within the ‘organization’ for his defeat in 2017.
