Mumbai: A protest by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) at D.N Nagar metro station led to temporary suspension of services on the city’s only Metro line during morning peak hours. Around six MNS workers entered the platform after purchasing tickets. Then they climbed down to the tracks and raised slogans and unfurled MNS flags, which they carried in their bags.
A spokesperson of the Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) said, “At 9.45 a.m., Metro services were disrupted for a short period on account of a protest by political parties. At 9.59 a.m., the protesters were cleared by security personnel and the police. Normal services resumed at 10.01 a.m.” The protesters were then taken by the Andheri police.
The impact was felt by commuters across the Metro corridor as stations got overcrowded. At Ghatkopar, the queue reached the skywalk. MMOPL runs 386 services during weekdays.
According to a Metro official, due to the morning agitation, they increased the number of off-peak hour services and ensured that the evening peak-hour services are on schedule.
