The ban orders are in force till 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

The District Administration has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC in Udupi city after the Bharat bandh called by the Congress and other parties turned violent as workers of Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clashed with one another here on Monday.

The prohibitory orders are in force from 11 a.m. on September 10 to 6 a.m. on September 11. Earlier, Congress and BJP workers clashed with one another at Bannanje Junction here in Udupi city.

Prabhakar Poojary, president of Udupi City Unit of BJP was injured in the clash after a stone hit his head during a clash between the workers. He was rushed to the District Government Hospital for treatment.

In the meantime, the Congress and BJP workers who rushed to the spot had verbal duels, pushed one another and there were scuffles between them. The efforts by the police to calm both the sides proved futile as they were not ready to leave the spot near the Gandhi Bhavan on the Taluk Office Road here.

With the result, the Superintendent of Police, Laxman Nimbargi ordered a lathi charge. Ramesh Kanchan, Congress councillor in Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) was injured during the caning and was admitted to the District Government Hospital here.
