The bandh has seen some innovative protests, with protesters channelling a pre-motorised era to hit out at the Centre for the rise in fuel prices.

JD(S) MLC Sharavana came to the party protest at Town Hall in a horse, to symbolise the return to animals for transportation as petrol and diesel prices have made it expensive to commute by vehicles. Similarly, Vatal Nagaraj, a Kannada activist, marked his protest by riding a donkey in the deserted Kempegowda Bus Stand.

Bullock carts were plenty in the Congress Party’s protest near Mysuru Bank Circle. Protesters also brought along firewood, claiming that it was becoming too expensive for a household to use LPG cylinders to cook any more.

Transportation

Meanwhile, bus services are expected to start returning to normalcy after 3 p.m., while airport buses will start plying from 4 p.m. to cater to passengers stranded at the International Airport where even cabs have become relatively scarce.

While taxi aggregators such as Ola and Uber have not officially supported the bandh, a majority of their taxi drivers have decided to stay off the roads. Reports have started pouring in of the surge in cab fares, with one aggregator even charging as much as ₹55/km extra on Monday due to “high demand.”
