Woman jumps off moving train, loses toes at Mathura station

AGRA: A woman lost toes of both legs after she came under the wheels of a train as she attempted to alight from a moving train at Mathura junction.
The incident took place on Sunday evening, when Delhi-bound Thirukkural super fast express was passing through railway station, as it did not have a halt.

Identified as Pappan Devi (48) of Kagaraul, Agra district, the victim had boarded train from Agra Cantt railway station in search of her husband who has been missing since two months.

Speaking to TOI, C B Parsad, station house officer of railway protection force, Mathura junction, said, “The woman was traveling along with her male relative in general coach right behind the locomotive engine of Kanniyakumari-Hazrat Nizamuddin express. Since, the train had no halt at Mathura junction, the woman in panic jumped off the train to alight, but unfortunately came under the wheels of train and lost toes of both legs. Seeing her injured, passengers pulled alarm chain to stop the train and rescued her.”

He added, “The woman was on search hunt for her husband Chitto, who has been missing for last two months. Someone informed the victim that her husband was seen in Vrindavan area, therefore she boarded Mathura-bound train, but a wrong one.”

The victim was sent to local government hospital and her condition was stable.
