Coimbatore Railway Station, one of the highest revenue earning stations in Southern Railway, won the ISO - 9001 certification for Quality Management, ISO 14001 for Occupational Health and Safety and ISO 18001 for Environmental Management System in December 2017.
The citation has now been put on display near the entrance of the junction building.
The certificate was issued by the Chennai-based Quest Certification (P) Ltd, accredited by the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand.
Though the office of the Salem Divisional Manager received the certification from the certifying authorities in December 2017, the officials were waiting for a special occasion to make a public announcement through Railway Minister or higher officials. However that did not happen. The authorities finally decided to display a copy of the certificate at the junction in August.
The certificate is valid for two years from November 20, 2017 to November 19, 2019 subject to successful completion of surveillance audit on October 25, 2018 and again on October 25, 2019, the certifying authorities said.
This is the second railway station in the entire country to obtain ISO certification. Habibganj station near Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh in the West Central Railway Division won the certifiication in 2002.
