2019 Audi E-Tron Has Integrated Technology To Automatically Pay Tolls

The Mercedes EQC celebrated its debut last week and now attention is turning to the Audi e-tron which will be unveiled on September 17th.

In an effort to build excitement for the upcoming crossover, Audi has revealed the e-tron will become the first production model to have “vehicle-integrated toll module technology.” Set to come standard on the electric crossover, the integrated toll module is a vehicle-to-infrastructure system which promises to make using toll roads a breeze.

According to Audi, the e-tron will have a toll transponder built into the rearview mirror and it will enable the model to automatically pay tolls on select roads in Canada and the United States. This isn’t exactly the model’s most exciting feature, but the company says the system will eliminate clutter on the windshield and allow users to manage multiple toll accounts through the MMI infotainment system.

The system will also have uses beyond traditional toll roads as Audi confirmed drivers will be able to use the technology to gain access to high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) and high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes. In order to do this, drivers simply use the infotainment system to say how many occupants are in the vehicle.

Full details about the e-tron will be released later this month and Audi will soon begin accepting reservations for a refundable fee of $1,000 in the United States. The first models are slated to arrive in America early next year and the e-tron will be the first of three battery-electric vehicles that Audi will unveil by 2020.
