A worker in an Ohio supermarket has been accused of stealing $9,200 (£7,100) worth of ham. According to a police report, the worker ate between three and five slices of ham nearly every day over the span of eight years. The woman admitted to the theft after a tip-off to the supermarket’s loss prevention manager.
Eighth annual squirrel cookoff held in Arkansas
The eighth “World Champion Squirrel Cookoff” has been held in Bentonville, Arkansas. The winner, who claimed a $1,000 (£770) prize, served the judges a “Mac and Squirrel Burger”, “Salad a la Squirrel”, and a “Bloody Squirrel cocktail”, a variation of a Bloody Mary. One attendee said that squirrel meat tastes like chicken, but has a tougher texture.
Dutch man finds elephant in garden
A Dutch man was shocked to find an elephant in his back garden last week, according to local media. The elephant was spotted eating the man’s pear tree before he called the police. The elephant belongs to a travelling circus, and its trainer was called to retrieve the animal and clean up the mess it left behind.
