‘Maatiyose Kids’, a group of former students of Saranathan College of Engineering who were instrumental in conceptualising an amputee driven car, during 2016, is in the process of eliciting the best innovative thoughts from the minds of school students.
Incidentally, the car was named 'Maatiyose' seemingly coined from two Tamil words 'Maati Yosi' meaning 'thinking outside the box', which is exactly what the group has been propagating among school kids in the area of sustainable living.
The idea is that innovative thoughts will flow when the school students find themselves in an ideal environment. And the results surfaced during the latest workshop that the group had conducted at Sri Vignesh Vidhyalaya School.
The transformational workshop for students of class 6 yielded the desired results. The school kids came out with some ideas contributing to green energy on the platform of scientific advancements, says Anandh of Maatiyose.
Based on their ideas, the group developed the models of solar bowl, cycle powered washing machine, air-powered rockets and robotic toys.
The solar bowl was touted as an affordable alternative to costly solar panels. The method in which pedal power can take the form of green energy for functionality of washing machine was also explained.
The demonstration of air-powered rocket served the purpose of exposing the school students to the science beyond rockets and its aerodynamics.
The robotic toys experiment was an exercise aimed at prompting the school students to conceptualise their own designs of functional toys, the ‘Maatiyose’ team says.
