Starting Monday, citizens can avail 40 Delhi government services, including issuing driving licences, marriage certificates and new water connections, from the comfort of their home. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to launch the service.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s doorstep delivery of services will begin after the scheme is launched by Mr. Kejriwal, read a statement released by the government on Sunday.
Eventually, more services will be added to the list.
Once launched, citizens will be able to call a centralised number to set up a home visit with a mobile ‘sahayak’ or helper.
The sahayak will help the user fill out the application, pay the fee and collect the documents needed for the service. The completed certificate will then be posted to the applicant.
For certificates that mandate a visit to the office concerned, such as a driving test for a licence, the applicant will be required to go to the office after the sahayak helps with the initial application at home.
Fee of ₹50
The fee for availing doorstep delivery is ₹50.
The AAP government had earlier this year alleged that Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal was obstructing its proposal for doorstep delivery. The L-G, however, said he had made certain observations, including question of safety of the applicants, but had not rejected the plan.
The Cabinet approved the contract for the doorstep delivery of services to be given to VFS Global on July 3. With the Supreme Court deciding the case on the powers of the elected government vis-a-vis the LG on July 4, the AAP dispensation said it would go through with its plan.
