Could The McLaren Speedtail Sprint To 60 Mph In Under 2 Seconds?

With just a little over a month left until its debut, new details have emerged surrounding the specs of the McLaren Speedtail.

Quoting sources with knowledge of the issue, including a Speedtail client, TheSupercarBlog reports that the hypercar was tested in two configurations called ‘4-Wheel Drive’ and ‘Propulsion’.

While the former most likely refers to four-wheel drive, the latter could be a RWD model (or is it mode?), which is said to be able to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2 seconds dead – or 0.5 seconds faster than the almighty Bugatti Chiron.

If this figure is correct, then that would make it faster than current hypercars, and the McLaren Speedtail could challenge even top-of-the-line superbikes.

While engineering details about the Speedtail are scarce, we do know that it will be powered by an internal combustion engine and a least one electric motor. The ICE is said to be a tuned version of the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 powering the 720S.

The combined output of the hybrid powertrain has allegedly not been disclosed even to customers, but it’s expected to sit north of the 1,000 PS (986 hp / 736 kW) mark.

McLaren will present the Speedtail at a private event soon, while its official premiere is scheduled to take place on October 12.
