Rassie set to back Pollard for All Blacks

2018-09-10 13:15

Cape Town - Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has suggested that he will start with Handre Pollard at flyhalf in Saturday's Rugby Championship clash against the All Blacks in Wellington.

Elton Jantjies started this past Saturday's clash against the Wallabies, which the Boks lost 23-18.

It seems unlikely, though, that Erasmus will give the Lions playmaker the No 10 jersey again.

"This weekend we'll probably go with Handre [Pollard] again," Erasmus told reporters in Wellington on Monday, as quoted by New Zealand's Stuff website.

"We might give Elton the last 20 minutes or so, otherwise we'll go to the World Cup with one flyhalf we trust."

Pollard, it seems, is still Erasmus' first-choice flyhalf.

All Black playmaker Beauden Barrett, however, believes that both Bok flyhalves are dangerous.

"Elton's a very skilful player. Left-footer, varies his depth. Sometimes he's deep, sometimes he's flat at the line," Barrett said on Monday before turning his attention to Pollard.

"Handre, typically he likes to run with the ball, flat at the line. He's quite a good ball carrier. I'm not sure who they'll play, both are very good options."

Erasmus is expected to name his side for the clash on Thursday while kick-off on Saturday is at 09:35 (SA time).
