The State Cabinet on Sunday made a recommendation to the Central government to rename the iconic Chennai Central railway station after AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran.
It also sought the conferment of Bharat Ratna on former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai and renewed a similar recommendation made to the Centre in December 2016 to honour former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa with the country’s highest civilian award.
Briefing reporters after emerging from the Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat here, Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar said the birth centenary of MGR was being celebrated by the State government over the past year, and renaming Chennai Central in his honour would be a fitting tribute to the former CM.
