FALL RIVER — Running down the street and fleeing across a state line was not enough for Randy Audet.

He was arrested moments after he entered Tiverton and is being held in Rhode Island, facing the charge of bank robbery in Fall River.

Police got a call at 9:11 a.m. Saturday that the Southern Mass Credit Union, 1101 Stafford Road, had just been robbed.

“Witnesses told officers the suspect stated he had a gun, but no weapon was shown,” said police Lt. Daniel Dube.

That wasn’t the only help witnesses provided.

Witnesses followed the suspect to a side street and then relayed to police that the car the man got into was heading south on Stafford Road, police report. The state line is less than a mile south of the credit union.

“Our dispatchers were immediately in contact with Tiverton police to let them know what we had,” Dube said. Tiverton police went to the state line.

Audet’s car was stopped and he was arrested just over the line.

He is being held in Rhode Island on charges of fugitive from justice. Extradition proceedings will begin to return him to Massachusetts to face robbery charges District Court.

“We are certainly appreciative of the witnesses at the bank and outside the bank who helped us with this,” Dube said. “We also appreciate the work of the Tiverton police.”
