CHANDIGARH: Around 13,000 candidates took part in the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in Chandigarh at 36 centres across Chandigarh. The UT was the only centre for the candidates from Punjab and Haryana.

The examination was conducted in two slots where paper-I consisted of 120 mathematics question and paper-II had 150 general studies questions, including 50 questions from the English section.

Mohit Phogat, one of the candidate, said, "Paper-I of mathematics was comparatively lengthy this time as I attempted more than 75 questions while paper-II was moderate one and easier. I am hopeful to score more than 400 marks."

Aakash, a Sainik School student, said, "I did fairly well in mathematics as well as in general science paper. In the mathematics paper options were tricky and it was a lengthy paper while the English as well as social sciences paper was slightly knotty, but I think I will score around 350."

Shubham Chaudhary, an NDA aspirant, said, "While I found mathematics questions moderate but lengthy, the general studies section, including English, was easy."

Analyzing the NDA paper , defence career analyst Kunal Singh said, "One shift in NDA general studies paper we observed is that the questions even in physics, geography and social sciences were on similar patterns with UPSC with multiple fundamentals asked in a single question ."

""Many questions were repeated and with 21 repeated questions out of 53 in science section, 12 straight forward questions in geography followed by moderate English, NDA -II, 2018, can be certainly termed as moderate. Of course, the candidates with science background will have an edge over non-science aspirants, he added.

The NDA exam is conducted twice every year, in April and September. The candidates who have either passed Class XII or are appearing for the same are eligible.
