AMBALA: A proclaimed offender accused of rape, who jumped parole nearly 19 years ago, has been arrested. The accused, a resident of Jind district, was booked for rape on the complaint of the woman he was in a relationship with, which later soured. He worked as a dishwasher around Ludhiana railway station and had gone to meet his family members after 19 years, when he was arrested.
The police came to know the accused had changed his identity and had been living in Ludhiana for 19 years. He was in a live-in relationship with the complainant but their equations strained after some time. Eventually, he broke up with her and she got a rape case filed against him.

In 1995, the accused was sentenced to seven-year imprisonment by the court in Panipat. He was sent to Ambala Central jail, where he remained incarcerated for three years. On December 16, 1999, he came home on parole, but did not return.

The court declared him proclaimed offender on December 29, 1999 on the orders of the Chief Judicial Magistrate. As per the investigation officer, head constable Gurdev Singh, the accused spent his time in different tea shops after washing dishes in Ludhiana railway station. He used to eat food at religious places like temples and gurdwaras.
