The Kondaveeti Vaagu, a hill stream that is called the 'stream of sorrow' as it regularly floods thousands of acres of standing crops in the Tadikonda and Mangalagiri mandals of Guntur district. However, a unique lift pumping project that is now ready for commissioning will pump the floodwaters into the Prakasam barrage and the Western Main canal of the Krishna river. The project will not only prevent inundation of standing crops but also protect Andhra Pradesh's upcoming capital city Amravati from the threat of floods. The project built at a cost of Rs 222 crore will lift 5,250 cusecs of water with the help of 16 heavy duty pumps . The project comprises a pump house, discharge point, regulator, a sub-station and power transmission lines. The projet will be inaugurated by CM N Chandrababu Naidu on 10th September 2018.
