A 25-year-old Haryana-based businessman has alleged that he and his friend were robbed of their valuables by four men, two of whom were dressed in police uniforms, near Dadri toll plaza on Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
‘Excise officials’
The police have recognised the men, who claimed themselves as police officers, as Excise Department officials.
The police said that the incident occurred on August 23 around 8 p.m., when the victims were on their way from Haryana’s Sonepat to Bulandshahr.
“We came to know about the incident today [Sunday]. The complainants alleged that they were stopped by four men who were travelling in two cars. They said that two of the accused, who were in the second car, were wearing police uniforms. Preliminary investigation has revealed that they were Excise Department officials,” said Ram Sen Singh, Station House Officer, Dadri police station.
The complainant, Ravindra, is a resident of Bahadurgarh in Haryana. He was travelling with his friend Harendra, a resident of Bulandshahr, in a car.
“They alleged that the accused held them hostage and took them to Bulandshahr, where they were driven around. They were allegedly robbed of valuables, including their cellphones and their car and ₹1.5 lakh cash. They were finally released near Aurangabad after almost an hour,” said Mr. Singh.
The police also said that there was a delay in filing the FIR as the accused were initially trying to file a complaint with the Bulandshahr police. They had even collected the CCTV footage from Dadri toll plaza and reported the matter here, said Dadri police, adding that they were scanning the footage to identify the accused. Mr. Singh said that the accused alleged that they were threatened by the uniformed men and asked not to report the matter to the police.
A case was filed under IPC Sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder) and 394 (causing hurt while committing a robbery). Efforts are being made arrest the accused.
