Chennai:
Police said that the incident took place at the house of Senthamizh Yogeswaran (55), CGM of Repco Bank, around 5.30 on Sunday evening.
“The gang entered the gate of the individual house along with the servant maid Rani after telling her that they wanted to meet the bank official. As soon as they came inside the premises, they covered their face with clothes. After tying up the servant maid outside the house, they entered it with knives,” police said.
While one of the gang members was near the gate and another near the maid, three men entered the house. They threatened bank manager and his wife Subbulakshmi at knifepoint and warned them not to raise alarm. Then, the couple were taken to the bedroom and were asked to pack all the gold jewels in a cloth. The couple obeyed the gang’s order and handed over 220 sovereigns of gold to them.
Senthamizh Yogeswaran and his wife later tied up by the gang. The mobile phones belonging the couple were also taken by the robbers. The gang walked away after threatening the victims again.
It took nearly 30 minutes for Senthamizh to wriggle himself out of the rope. He later helped his wife to untie her. Only when they came out they noticed that their servant Rani was also tied up. The couple informed the police.
A police team including the Deputy Commissioner of St Thomas Mount inspected the scene of crime and have launched a hunt for the suspects.
