SA's Moto2 rider Brad Binder says Silverstone was very disappointing after it had to be called off because of the rain. He talks to Wheels24 about the dreary event and about this weekend's race in Italy.
Binder says: "The weather was obviously not very good at all. It was awful, actually. It was a real pity that it poured down with rain all day. It’s really strange and going to a Grand Prix and coming home not having raced. I think the organisers made the right call.
"The MotoGP guys got the worst of the weather the day before. There were a few bad accidents because the people had problems with aqua-planing and coming down hard.
"I felt so sad and sorry for the all the people who spent their money and time to come and watch a Grand Prix that never happened. At the end of the day, you have to put safety as the number one priority."
This coming weekend sees Brad and his Ajo Red Bull KTM Team in Misano, Italy this weekend.
"It’s an awesome track," Brad says. "I always enjoyed racing here. Last year I finished fourth in the rain and won in 2016 in Moto3. I am really hoping for a dry weekend. It was really slippery in the wet. But when it’s dry, it flies."
According to Brad, the second half of the season was good for him last year.
"I started feeling strong after the mid-season break after my arm injury that had affected the first part of the year. Coming into this race was when my streak of good races and results started. From this race on, I didn’t finish outside fifth place, with one crash in Japan, and a few podiums.”
"So, I’m looking forward to a good weekend. I’m going to be working hard from the first free practice, sticking to my normal routine and looking forward to racing for the first time in almost a month.”
