World shooting championship: Ankur Mittal hits gold in double trap

Ankur Mittal won the gold in men’s double trap as he beat two others in the shoot-off after being tied on 140 in the 52nd World shooting championship here, on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Ankur came up with a perfect last round of 30 to tie with Yang Yiyang of China and Hubert Andrzej Olejnik of Slovakia.

In the shoot-off, Ankur shot four to beat the other two for the gold in an event which has ceased to be part of the Olympic programme.

Mohd. Asab shot 135 for seventh spot in a field of 25, while the Asian Games silver medalist, 15-year-old Shardul Vihan placed 15th with 134, following a 24 in the fifth round. The trio won the team bronze, two points behind champion Italy.

India in third spot

India reached the third spot in the medals table with seven gold, seven silver and six bronze, behind Korea and China.

However, there was no addition to the two Olympic quota places won by Anjum Moudgil and Apurvi Chandela in women’s air rifle.
