Steps should be taken to refer cases to govt. hospitals: Minister

Minister for Mines and Geology Sujay Krishna Ranga Rao on Saturday directed all the district officials to focus on Medical and Health Department activities till viral fevers in the district were controlled.

He said all the district officials, who were also in charge of various mandals, should take special care in taking up awareness programmes in villages, explaining the ‘dos and don'ts’ over fever cases.

He held an emergency meeting with all district officials on Saturday to know the exact reasons for the spread of fevers. Medical and Health officials told him that villagers were ignoring fevers initially and approaching hospitals at the eleventh hour. MLA Meesala Geeta and Municipal Chairperson Prasadula Ramakrishna alleged that the urban health centres were not functioning properly in spite of many alerts.

Situation easing

Vizianagaram Collector M.Hari Jawaharlal said 4,140 fever cases were reported in September first week and their number was 12,652 in August. He said that the situation was coming to normal gradually.

After listening to the officials, the Minister said that Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu was very particular about the fevers and the situation should be handled in a professional way. “Asha workers should be trained to identify serious fever cases so that patients could be referred to the area and district hospitals immediately,” he added.

He directed Mr.Hari Jawaharlal and ITDA Project Director G.Lakshmisha to review the fever cases on a daily basis and take necessary steps.
