CHENNAI: The Madras high court on Friday adjourned to September 11 (Tuesday) the hearing of DMK’s plea seeking direction to the DVAC to file an FIR based on its complaint of corruption against chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Justice A D
Jagadish Chandira adjourned the hearing since the petitioner sought time to file rejoinder to the counter filed by the DVAC.
On September 4, the DVAC filed a counter and informed the court that it has completed the preliminary inquiry into the complaint and that a draft final report (DFR) has been forwarded to the vigilance commissioner for further action.
It was further submitted that the commissioner had to pass an order based on which further action would be commenced.
The issue pertains to a plea moved by
DMK organizing secretary R S Bharathi alleging that the DVAC has failed to act up on a complaint dated June 22 filed by the party alleging corruption against Palaniswami.
According to petitioner Bharathi, the chief minister, who is also holding the portfolio of state highways, abused his power to allocate five highway-laying and maintenance projects worth Rs 3,500 crore to firms owned by his relatives and benamis.
Most of the projects were funded by the
World Bank, the DMK organizing secretary said.
