Railways launches social welfare initiative in Chamarajanagar

The Mysuru division of South Western Railway (SWR) has launched a social welfare programme to enhance the quality of life for people living around Chamarajanagar railway station.

This is part of a new initiative by the Ministry of Railways to improve the quality of life and economic well-being of people around railway stations. Chamarajanagar has been identified for the purpose under Mysuru division.

According to a release, railway officials conducted a beneficiary assessment for 15 days, following which a career guidance programme, sanitation and welfare activities, and an initiative to bridge the digital divide was launched eralier this week.

Wi-Fi was enabled at Chamarajanagar railway station and a rail safety awareness programme was also conducted, besides providing the participants with information on the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.

In addition to this, a health check-up camp was also conducted by the doctors of Railway Hospital, Mysuru, and nearly 300 children from Government Polytechnic, Chayadevi Industrial Training Institute, and Government High School, Chamarajanagar, took part in it.

Such exercises will be conducted once in six months, and they are expected to create goodwill in the community and help reinforce a positive and socially responsible image of Indian Railways. The stations identified are those where the Railways’ contribution in social welfare can have maximum impact without affecting regular traffic.
