Naomi Osaka beat Serena Williams 6-2, 6-4 in the U.S. Open women's final on Saturday. Osaka became the first person from Japan to win a major title in tennis. The match was contentious, as Williams received a warning for a coaching violation and then was penalized a point for breaking her racquet. Williams then called the chair umpire a "thief" for accusing her of violating the rules by engaging with her coach, and he charged her with a game, which is the penalty for a third warning, arguing that she engaged in verbal abuse. Williams continued to demand an apology from the umpire and asserted that male tennis players get away with more than what she was punished for.
