LUDHIANA: Ludhiana Retail Chemists Association organized an awareness rally against drugs at Kochhar Market on Friday. The rally was organized as part of Tandrust Punjab campaign of the state government.

Association president Aman Ahuja said the Punjab government had taken a pledge against drugs, and chemists too had pledged they would not allow the sale of synthetic drugs. He added that if a chemist did not follow this pledge, he would be educated, but if he still does not obey, then they would get him punished.

Association general secretary Manjeet Singh said the youth showing an inclination towards drugs should stay away from such abuse, as it was very difficult to get out of it. Participants exhorted the addicts to give up drugs and adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Ludhiana police commissioner Dr Sukchain Singh Gill appreciated the organizers for planning a rally against drug abuse, saying it was the ‘first-of-its-kind’ initiative, where chemists had organized such a rally. He added that people needed to come forward against drug abuse.

The police chief said they had waged a stringent war against drugs and were getting support from various organizations, because of which they had contained the problem to a large extent. Councillor Mamta Ashu also participated in the rally.
