Congress begging for alliance in Madhya Pradesh: Rakesh Singh, BJP state president

BHOPAL: Persons who attacked Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan earlier this week during his ‘Jan Aashirwaad Yatra’ were shouting slogans in favour of Congress President Rahul Gandhi and have confessed that they acted on directions of the state congress leaders, the BJP state president, Rakesh Singh, said.

Speaking to ET in an interview, Singh also said that the Congress was “virtually standing with a begging bowl for alliances” in the state and had no face that could pose any challenge to Chouhan.

“Congress hatash aur nirash hai, unko lagta hai woh baisakiyon ke begair yeh chunav nahin jeet sakti (Congress is distraught and dismotivated…it feels it cannot win this election without crutches). This is the same Congress which at one point of time said it will never enter into any alliance in Madhya Pradesh. Ab yehi Congress Madhya Pradesh mein sahare dhund rahi there, jholi phelaye khade hain ki log unke saath aa jayen(the same Congress is now standing with a begging bowl in MP for an alliance),” Singh told ET.

Congress state president Kamal Nath has earlier said he was in talks for an alliance with BSP.

Singh also raised the issue of an attack on Chouhan’s Yatra earlier this week in Churhat assembly constituency of the state which is represented by the Leader of Opposition, Ajay Singh.

“This was a pre-planned deliberate attack for which even a rehearsal was done. The persons throwing stones at the CM were chanting slogans in favour of Rahul Gandhi and have later confessed in police custody that senior Congress office bearers in the state had deputed them. It was a conspiracy,” the BJP state president alleged.

However, Congress and opposition leader Ajay Singh denied any role in the attack, blaming it on anger amongst people towards the CM.

“Ajay Singh is involved in the attack. Why did it happen only in Churhat and nowhere else?” Rakesh Singh told ET, saying Congress has lowered the level of political fight in the state.

The BJP state president Singh however steered clear of the protests in the state by upper-caste and OBC groups against the SC/ST Amendment Act passed by Parliament to nullify an SC order.

“Some issues are there which are beyond the boundaries of politics and are sensitive in nature to keep the country together. This is one such issue, which requires lot of sensitivity in handling,” Singh said.

He said the party was organising a ‘OBC Kumbh’ in the state on September 10 followed by a massive public meeting of 8 lakh party workers in Bhopal on September 25 to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“We will give a reply to the politics of anger and hate of the Congress by registering a fourth win in the state for the BJP,” Singh told ET.
