Nagpur: The 85th birthday of legendary singer
Asha Bhosle, whose unique singing style continues to sway generations even today, was celebrated in style by ‘Sursangam’ at Scientific Society Hall, Laxmi Nagar, on Friday.
The programme, titled ‘Suron Ki Asha’, began with Surbhi Dhomne presenting ‘Ab ke baras’ and ‘Chainse hum ko kabhi’ in her melodious voice. ‘Indian Idol’ fame Yashashree Bhave lit up the stage with beautiful rendition of ‘Shokh nazar ki bijaliya’. This was followed by Mukul Pande and Surbhi’s duet performance ‘Mood mood ke na dekh mood mood ke’, originally sung by Manna Dey and Asha Bhosle from ‘Shree 420’.
Surbhi kept the spectators on the edge of their seats with her mellifluous voice, presenting ‘Ye hai reshmi’ and ‘Piya tu’. ‘Ye mera dil’, sung by Bhave, had the enthusiastic crowd cheering the singer and the accompanying artistes. Ajay Malik’s versatility reminded the audience of Kishore Kumar. He and Surbhi presented ‘Paach rupaiya’, which was a treat to watch.
The response the programme drew underlined the fact that old Hindi songs continue to be popular among the connoisseurs of music, age notwithstanding.
The accompanying artistes were Sachin Dhomne (tabla), Mahendra Dhole (keyboard), Manoj Vishwakarma (guitar), Subhash Wankhede (drums), Amar Shende (violin) and Nilesh Gawai (saxophone). Shweta Shelgaonkar, who anchored the programme, took the audience to the life journey of Asha Bhosle.
The event was organized in aid of Vishwambhar Shikshan Sanstha, a charitable trust.
