GREATER NOIDA: A 24-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly killing his friend after he got a whiff about the latter being involved in a relationship with his youngster sister.
The two youths who belong to Firozabad had known each other for many months and were working in factories in
Hosiery Complex of Phase II.
According to police, the body of Mohammed Sahil (19) was recovered from the road behind the district collectorate that goes towards the Surajpur court, on the morning of September 2 after which his family lodged a complaint with police.
During investigation, it was revealed that Sahil had been frequently visiting the rented accommodation of Farhan, his friend from Firozabad who had shifted to Noida about two months back.
Gudiya Qadri, Sahil’s aunt, told TOI that they were informed by police about the murder on the next day.
“We were told that Sahil had gone to meet Farhan who killed him on the night of September 1. Later, we got to know that Sahil was involved with Farhan’s younger sister,” Gudiya said.
While Sahil’s family members said that they got to know about the affair only after his death, they admitted that the two used to frequent each other’s homes on different occasions.
According to Sahil's kin, it was Sahil who had suggested to Farhan to shift to
Greater Noida for better job prospects. Farhan had come to Greater Noida only two months back.
Gudiya further said that on the night of September 1, Sahil had left home around 8pm and was present with Farhan, who had apparently called him.
Surajpur SHO Munish Chauhan said that Farhan allegedly called Sahil from his home and took him to the isolated road behind the district collectorate which goes towards the Surajpur court.
“The duo had been in touch for many months. However, Farhan had recently got to know that his younger sister was involved in a relationship with Sahil. He had seen the duo together in a compromising situation, which angered Farhan. He did not say anything to them but the grudge grew stronger. He then decided to kill him,” he said.
However, as the post-mortem report revealed that Sahil’s death was caused due to strangulation, police grew suspicious and checked his phone records, which showed multiple conversations with Farhan and his sister.
“Farhan was confronted and he admitted to the crime,” Chauhan said. A case has been lodged against Sahil under IPC section 302 (murder). Farhan was arrested from near the Durga roundabout around 2:25 am in the wee hours on Saturday.
