Fed up with the apathy and inaction by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), a group of residents of Kaggadasapura cleaned and beautified a garbage dump in their neighbourhood on Saturday morning.
Clad in bright yellow aprons and armed with brooms and brushes, they transformed the segregation and dumping point on Kaggadasapura Main Road into a spot of bright and vibrant colours with the help of some painters and artists.
“This new look is far more fitting for the city than the garbage mound that we have had here for the past five years. We took matters in our own hands and cleaned the spot. Now, we can only hope that the BBMP respects our effort and allows the area to remain clean and green, and, most importantly, healthy,” said Sampat S., a resident who had volunteered for the initiative.
Residents had on August 18 staged a peaceful protest, urging the civic body to shift the point to another location and find a long-term solution to the garbage problem.
