Nagpur: A delegation of BJP’s city MLAs and other elected leaders on Friday met district collector Ashwin Mudgal and sought his intervention in gearing up the electoral rolls revision exercise currently underway.
As per the Election Commission of India’s programme, exercise of sanitizing the voters’ list and getting them rid of glitches has begun on September 1 and will continue till October 31. First time voters and those who want to enlist/ delete or add names in the list can also do so during this period.
Led by the party’s city unit president Sudhakar Kohale, the delegation pointed out specific problems being faced by the voters in getting their names registered. According to city unit spokesman a memorandum was handed over to the collector. It was brought to the notice that booth-level officers (BLO) were not present at the designated centres and people going to seek help were facing inconvenience. The online voter registration was also of little help and server often failed while uploading documents.
The collector was told that the old and foolproof system of door-to door survey had not been carried out in the city in the last 15 years. Often members of one family or building had been allotted different polling booths, many a times located at a long distance, the delegation pointed out, adding misspelt names, unrecognizable photos of voters in the final list added to woes.
“The collector was urged to get representatives of all political parties involved in the revision exercise so that names of deceased or those migrated could be deleted and genuine voters could get enlisted,” Chandan Goswami, city BJP spokesman, said. Mudgal promised to look into the matter and arrange for a BLOs’ meeting soon.
