Durfee boys' soccer tops SB 2-0

Sophomore Brooke Sullivan and freshman Ashlyn Aguiar scored as Somerset Berkley Regional defeated Durfee 2-0 in girls' soccer on Friday at SBR.

Sullivan scored in the first half. Aguiar's goal, midway through the second half, came on a head ball off a Macy Paquin (2 assists) corner kick from the right.

Maddy Fiola (4 saves) posted the shutout.

The Raiders are 2-0, Durfee 0-2.

 

 

Westport 5, Diman 0:  At Westport, freshman Jesse Skove scored three goals as the Wildcats (1-0) opened with this Mayflower Athletic Conference win.

Marianela Dutra Africano and freshman Laura Martel also scored while Samantha Arsenault and Ashley Fay both had two assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Reed made four saves for the shutout. "And our back line was outstanding," Westport coach gary Muello said. "They made tremendously intelligent decisions. Diman's a strong team."

 

Boys' Soccer

Durfee 2, Somerset Berkley 0: At Durfee High School, Javier Beltran Sainz scored twice (from Ole Bucholz and Christian Sousa) as the Hilltoppers won this cross-estuary battle.

Zack Massa posred a one-save shutout. SB keeper Chris Araujo made seven saves. SB is 1-1.

Case 2, Falmouth 2: Nicholas McMahon and Colby Campos scored for the Cardinals, whose record is now 0-1-1.

Johnston 2, Tiverton 2: At Tiverton, Timothy Levakis and Cayden Ibbotson scored for the Tigers (0-1-1) in this draw. Shane Ramos had two assists.

Diman 3, Westport 0: At the Harrington Athletics Complex in Fall River, the Bengals posted this Mayflower Athletic Conference shutout.

 

Volleyball

Somerset Berkley 3, Bishop Connolly 0: At Somerset, senior captain Caroline Francisco (5 aces, 7 service points, 6 digs) and junior Maddison Johnson (9 service points, including 2 aces) helped lead the Raiders (1-1) in their home opener 25-15, 25-15, 25-14.

Westport 3, Diman 1: At Goj Court, the Wildcats prevailed 25-16, 25-18, 15-25, 26-24 in this Mayflower Athletic Conference match.

For Diman (1-1), standouts were Kaya Ferreira (6 aces, 3 kills), Camron Botelho (38 for 41 passing, 7 digs, 5 aces) and Kyra Smith (33 for 36 passing, 8 digs, 9 aces).

Durfee 3, Seekonk 0: The Toppers evened their record at 1-1, winning 25-22, 25-20, 25-16.

Gabby Streeto finished with 18 digs, while Barbara Silva and Salene Mayette each had six kills.

Randolph 3, Atlantis Charter 0: At Randolph, Synthia Comas (4 kills, 2 blocks), Chanerlee Navarro (5 aces, 6 kills, 2 digs) and Alyssa Frias (3 aces, 2 kills) were top players for the Tritons (0-2).

Somerset Berkley 96, Durfee 75: At Fall River Country Club, Somerset Berkley's John Salamone shot a 6-over-par 41 for 23 points.

Case 98, Greater New Bedford 65: Zachary Brown (46, 19 points), Cody Bernier (45, 19 points) and Ben Paquette (47, 17 points) were the top scorers for the Cardinals in this Mayflower Athletic Conference win.

 

Football

Martha's Vineyard 55, Atlantis Charter 0: At Martha's Vineyard, the Vineyarders cruised to this non-league victory.

Bishop Stang 42, Seekonk 22: Justin Lopes scored twice, on runs of 12 and 58 yards, as the Spartans cruised in their season opener. Lopes also tossed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Eric Camacho.

Also scoring touchdowns for the Spartans were Frank Hernandez-Manon, Tim Manley and Luke Massari.
