The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) on Saturday took out a rally here on Saturday to press for granting of the Special Category Status, railway zone with headquarters here and allotment of captive mines for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant among other demands.
Members from various industrial establishments gathered in large numbers at Saraswati Park Junction and later proceeded in a rally with banners and placards to the GVMC Gandhi Statue, which was followed by a meeting.
Addressing the meeting, INTUC district president Mantri Rajasekhar came down heavily on the BJP-led NDA government for its failure to sanction the SCS and new railway zone as promised during the elections. He alleged that the Centre had deliberately not allotted captive iron ore mines to the VSP.
He said the decision on strategic sale of public sector units and disinvestment was not in the interest of the nation.
State vice-president of INTUC K.S. Mohan Kumar, general secretary Neerukonda Ramachandra Rao, Naval Dockyard unit general secretary Bhogavilli Nagabhuanam and others participated.
