On the occasion of Open Day on September 25

The Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI) here, founded on July 25, 1948 and became a physical reality on January 14, 1953, would showcase its scientific achievements, models, science posters and technological achievements on the occasion of Open Day on September 25, on the eve of Foundation Day celebrations of the parent organisation – Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

The institute would list its scientific achievements, exhibit scientific models, science posters and technological achievements to benefit school and college students and general public on the Open Day, a release from CECRI said on Friday.

About 25,000 people, including general public and students, are expected to visit the campus to take glimpse of its achievements, it said.

There would be no entry fee and no prior registration was required for the public and students to visit CECRI on September 25, it said. The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) would operate special buses from Karaikudi old bus stand, new bus stand and railway station to the campus, it said.

On the Foundation Day on September 26, Mylswamy Annadurai, scientist and former Director of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Satellite Centre, Bengaluru, would deliver a lecture on “Innovations – Reinvented” on the CECRI campus, the release said. CECRI is a proud family of more than 325 employees, including 115 scientists and 99 research scholars, it said.

CECRI is a premier institute, doing research in the area of electrochemistry. It was also doing research on spectrum of specialised areas like corrosion science, electro chemicals, electro metallurgy, electrochemical material science, bio-electrochemical pollution control, functional materials and nanoscale electrochemistry, it said.
