Five things to watch out for today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the second phase of the FAME India scheme in New Delhi at India’s First Global Mobility Summit ‘MOVE’. The government had launched the FAME India scheme in 2015 with an aim to promote eco-friendly vehicles. The ongoing pilot phase of the scheme has been extended till September or until its second phase is approved.

NCLAT is likely to resume hearing Baba Ramdev-led Patanjali Ayurved's plea challenging the decision taken by lenders to approve Adani Wilmar’s bid for Ruchi Soya. Patanjali was the only other bidder. Adani Wilmar’s bid included ₹4,300 crore for repayment of loans and another ₹1,714 crore by way of capital infusion. Patanjali’s bid stood at about ₹5,700 crore, of which ₹4,065 crore would be payable to the lenders and another ₹1,700 crore earmarked as capital infusion.

The leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran are to meet in Iran to discuss the situation in northwestern Syria. Russia, an ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has resumed air strikes against insurgents in Idlib following weeks of bombardment and shelling by pro-Syrian government forces in an apparent prelude to a full-scale offensive against the rebels' last major enclave. Turkey, which backs rebels against Assad, has said an offensive on Idlib would be disastrous. Ankara is sheltering 3.5 million Syrian refugees.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in Pakistan to hold talks with the country’s new leadership to consolidate cooperation and elevate the all-weather bilateral strategic partnership. This is the first high-level visit by a Chinese official to Islamabad since the new government of Prime Minister Imran Khan assumed office after the July 25 elections.

India and England will play the fifth and final Test at the Oval. The Oval Test will be former skipper and England’s highest run-scorer Alastair Cook’s farewell game for his country.  England have taken an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-Test series.
