Delhi man alleges he was beaten up by bouncers in Gurugram, suffers skull fracture

A 33-year-old businessman from Delhi has alleged that him and two of his friends, one from Delhi and the other from Gurugram, were beaten up, on Saturday, by two bouncers of a micro-brewery in Sector 29 where the trio was dining.

The victim, a resident of Vasant Kunj, suffered a fracture to his skull and rupture in the ear drum. The Gurugram resident, who works at a knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) centre, sustained minor injuries while the 31-year-old from Delhi was unhurt in the incident, police said.

The complainant alleged that one of the bouncers had objected to his friend dancing on top of a table during dinner at the brewery. “We had gone to a brewery on Saturday around 9.30pm. Everything was fine except for a minor issue raised by a security person, who asked my friend to get down from the dining table and the matter ended there,” said the complainant, requesting anonymity.

He added that when the trio was exiting the place between 12 and 12.30am, a different bouncer came charging at them mouthing the words “Zada uchhal rahe thhe andar (you were jumping a lot inside)”.

“He was accompanied by the same bouncer who had earlier objected to my friend’s boisterousness during dinner. They started beating my friend and hit me on the head. I fainted and when I woke up, I was in a hospital. The men appeared to be drunk,” the complainant said.

The microbrewery staff denied any knowledge of the incident on that particular night. The management of the establishment have contested the charges and refused to comment on the matter.

The complainant said his friends took him to a private hospital in Gurugram from where he was shifted to a private hospital in Saket, Delhi, where he received further treatment for his injuries.

According to the police, the incident took place in the parking lot of the Sector 29 market and they have written to all breweries and restaurants in the market to handover footage from any closed circuit television (CCTV) camera that may have captured the incident.

Ramesh, head constable of Sector 29 police station who is the investigating official in the case, said the police was not certain if the accused were employed with the microbrewery where the victims had dined.

“We are conducting investigation to identify the accused. It is possible that the accused could be working at a different brewery. We have notified all restaurants to hand over any CCTV footage of the incident,” said Ramesh, who goes by his first name.

Police said a case was registered against unidentified accused under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code at Sector 29 police station on Wednesday.
