Symbiosis to organize inter-collegiate debate competition

PUNE: Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune along with Symbiosis Elocution and debate Association(SEDA) will organize intercollegiate debate- Waxing Eloquent on September 11 at 9:30 am. This intercollegiate debate competition has been held for the last 32 years by the college.

The topic for this year's debate is 'Sports extravaganza are an economic drain'. The event will be held in the Audio Visual Hall of the Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce.

'SEDA aims to inculcate critical thinking, logical presentation public speaking skills and confidence in addressing an audience. The best team gets a trophy, medal and a cash prize of Rs 4000 and the best speaker gets a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2000. There are prizes for runners up team and best speakers,' said the official release from the Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce.

The official release further said, "The debate will be conducted in English language only and is open to both under graduate & post graduate students. Each team will consist of two participants, one speaking for the proposition and the other against. Each participant will be allotted a maximum of 3+1 minutes for the speech. There will be a rebuttal round. In view of the overwhelming response the competition receives every year, SEDA is constrained to accept only one team per college."
