Ex-Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos was sentenced Friday to 14 days in prison for lying to the FBI about his contacts with a Russian intermediary, giving Special Counsel Robert Mueller a second prison term from his 15-month inquiry.
U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss ordered the incarceration, saying that he couldn’t avoid imposing prison time given the gravity of the investigation. But he said he was moved by what he viewed as Papadopoulos’s “genuine remorse.”
At 90-minute court hearing, Papadopoulos said he had made a “terrible mistake” and wanted to have a second chance.
