WATCH: The far right's myth of South African 'white genocide'

The far right in the US, Canada and Europe think there's a widespread campaign of race-based killing of white farmers and land seizures, and even US President Donald Trump has tweeted about it.

TRT World analyses the data, stating that South Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world.

Trump tweeted that he had asked his Secretary of State to look into land expropriation in SA and the killing of farmers in South Africa.

"I have asked Secretary of State @SecPompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers. South African Government is now seizing land from white farmers," Trump tweeted at the time.

Farm attacks are just part of a greater violent crime problem and there's no reliable data to suggest that white farmers are targeted more than any other racial group, the government has said.

The spotlight is on South African farms because of the government's land reform measures which are intended to address racial inequality by redistributing land from white farmers to black farmers who were barred from owning land during apartheid.
