MYSURU: Assuring speedy disposal of
human rights violation cases, former DGP
R K Dutta on Thursday said, “Around 238 human rights violation cases have been registered since 2015 in Mysuru district, of which 89 have been disposed. We will expedite the process and dispose of the remaining 149 cases by the end of 2018.”
Dutta, who is also a member of the Karnataka State
Human Rights Commission, said all human rights violation cases will be disposed of within the next 3 months, he said.
“We are streamlining the process as we have also planned to reduce the period to serve notices and summon violators to one month as against the one and a half month period,” he said.
Assuring speedy justice, he said, “While a court battle is a long drawn one, if the complainants approach us the process will be expedited without much hassle as we do not insist on affidavits. We insist on affidavits only when we have doubts.”
One may not need a lawyer, an individual can represent himself and present his case, he added.
Pointing to the departments where human rights violation cases were reported, he said, “When it comes to receiving human rights violation complaints, the revenue department tops followed by the police department and education department.”
Responding to a media query whether complaints would be received on social media, Dutta said, “We are planning to suggest to the Human Rights Commission to create a Facebook page and be present on other social media platforms to receive complaints as it will largely benefit the general public.”
