BEGUSARAI: An irate mob on Friday thrashed three people in their 30s to death after they allegedly tried to abduct a minor girl from her school in a village in Begusarai district on Friday.
According to Manjhaul SDPO Suryadev Kumar, the incident took place near the Government Elementary School in Pansalla village under the Chhaurahi police station area. The trio introduced themselves to a woman teacher as the uncles of Class V girl Nagina and sought permission to take the girl with them.

Even as the girl denied that they were her uncles and refused to go with them, said the SDPO, they insisted to take her. This led to an altercation during which one of them slapped the woman teacher.

On hearing the alarm raised by the teacher, villagers assembled and tried to catch the trio. “Apparently panicky, the intruders fired in the air,” the SDPO said and added the mob of villagers eventually overpowered and thrashed them brutally. “While one of them died on the spot, the two others were declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctors at the primary health centre at Garhpura.

The deceased were later identified as Mukesh Mahto of Kumbhi village and Bauna Singh of Cheria Bariarpur in Begusarai district, Hira Singh hailed from Rosera in neighbouring Samastipur district.

Police said the girl did not belong to any rich family. “Investigations are on to find out the possible motive behind the bid to abduct her,” a police officer said.
