PATNA: A retired executive engineer of energy department along with his wife were found murdered inside their private residence at
Buddha Colony in the city on late Thursday night.
The bodies of couple – Harendra Prasad Singh and Swapna Dasgupta – were found lying on floor inside their bedroom after which they were rushed to a nearby hospital. Both had injury marks on neck, face and head. While Singh was in his late 80s, the women was aged around 76 years.
They couple were living along with four servants at their private residence number B-6 at poultry farm lane. Locals said Singh used to run a poultry farm in his premises several years back due to which it is called so.
At present, at least 54 tenants were living inside the premises owned by Singh. A boys hostels and several shops also run from the large premises owned by Singh. Police suspects the assailants were known to the deceased couple and it was a friendly entry.
One of the tenants Kalpana Jha, who is living there for last eight years, told TOI that they came to know that the couple was murdered only after they read newspaper on Friday morning.
“We all were under impression that both suddenly died due to old age. No suspicious activity was observed, nor we heard any sound. Both were lying on floor inside their bedroom when we went to see them upstairs. They were rushed to doctors,” she said.
“The duo were down to earth and only four servants used to live with them for more than two decades,” she said.
“Dasgupta was Singh’s second wife. Their son is a doctor and is settled in Delhi along with family while daughter lives in Australia,” she said.
“Singh’s estranged wife lives at Kankarbagh and has two sons and two daughters, who all are also married,” she said, adding four servants Shohaib, his wife Gulshan Ara, Bahadur and his wife Geeta also lived inside the premises. She said Shohaib and Bahadur were attached with Singh for more than 25 years.
Meanwhile, a student Sanjeed Ashraf, also living inside the premises, said he last spotted the couple at around 7.30pm on Thursday when they were going upstairs with help of one of their servants Shoiab.
“The owner had received injury on his leg and had went to a doctor for treatment,” police said.
DSP (Law and order) Manoj Kumar Sudhanshu said Singh had injury marks on right side of his head while his wife had injury marks on her neck and face.
“All four servants were being quizzed for the double murder. Police have received some clues. Investigation were going on in the case,” he added.
