NEW DELHI: A gang of fraudsters, who operated from a oneroom ‘call centre’ in Sabzi Mandi, was busted on Thursday. The accused lured people to work as male escorts and gigolos and promised them over Rs 30,000 in less than a week’s time.

On top of that, a woman from the gang made calls to people asking them to join classes to lose weight, for which they got the highest enrollments.

Three people were arrested during the raid at the fake call centre and 10 mobile phones and several SIM cards were recovered from their possession.

According to the police, on 29 August, one Rinku Pandey filed a complaint in which he stated that he received a call, where a woman offered him a job for which he would get Rs 40,000 as salary in merely four hours.

Lured by the offer, he submitted a sum of Rs 1,18,000 through an online portal as registration fees and other formalities. When Pandey called on the number after a couple of days, he found it to be switched off. Realising that he had been cheated, he informed the cops.

On scanning the transaction Pandey made, cops found an account number registered to an address in Rohini Sector 20. The house was raided and three persons, Shree Ram, Akash and Nisha, were arrested. A juvenile was also apprehended.
