Mangaluru: SKDRDP to contribute Rs 10 crore towards relief ops

MANGALURU: The Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) will donate Rs 10 crore to victims of recent natural calamities in Kodagu and Sakleshpur.
Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade collected details from Kodagu project director regarding the loss and announced his decision to donate the sum, SKDRDP chief executive L H Manjunath stated in a release.

He then sanctioned Rs 2.61 crore towards repair of 1,044 houses with each house getting Rs 25,000. Heggade also sanctioned Rs 2 crore for a total of 1,335 houses towards buying essential household commodities. As 1,450 acres of agricultural land belonging to 1,117 families is damaged, Heggade announced a sum of Rs 25,000 per family, totally costing Rs 2.80crore.

A total sum of Rs 60 lakh was also sanctioned to families that were affected by landslides and floods in Sakleshpur and Arakalagoodu among others, thus rounding off the total relief package at Rs 8crore.

While the SKDRDP workers decided to contribute their three-day wages/salaries towards relief and rehabilitation operation, SKDRDP invested an equal amount of money, taking this sum to Rs 2crore.
