Nagpur: Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court reserved the verdict on PILs regarding alleged LED lamps scam in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), exposed by TOI. The final hearing of started on August 21 before a division bench comprising justices Bhushan Dharmadhikari and Murlidhar Giratkar.
HC had taken a suo motu cognisance of the newspaper’s report in this regard and directed its registry to treat it as PIL (No 78/2018) where Amruta Gupta was appointed as amicus curiae. The second was filed by lawyer Abhiyan Barahate (PIL No 79/2018) through counsel Shashibhushan Wahane, praying for directives to respondents to place all relevant records regarding the scam before HC.

The much awaited results of Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa polls have started to come out, although unofficially. As per lawyers, about eight contestants completed their quota of preferential voting from the state, which included two from Vidarbha and three from Pune. Of them, Parijat Pande with over 2,500 votes was leading from the city, on much expected lines. About 65% turnout was witnessed in city in the elections conducted on March 28. Out of 5,508 voters, 3,581 cast their votes while counting commenced from April 15 in Mumbai.
Govt fixes bus stops as per HC directives
The state government informed HC that it had issued notification to places/stoppages for school buses, as per the earlier directives. The HC was hearing a suo Motu PIL on tragic death of 9-year-old Virat Zade, a student of Central India Public School, on January 9, 2011, where Firdos Mirza was appointed as amicus curiae.
Additional government pleader Deepak Thakre sought time to file an affidavit in this regard, after which the division bench asked him to complete formalities in a week and adjourned the hearing after three weeks.
