FALL RIVER — As Gov. Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito advance toward the November election they'll do so with the support of Mayor Jasiel Correia II.

In a press release issued Thursday afternoon, the Baker-Polito ticket announced the endorsement of 22 mayors from across the state, including Correia.

“Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito are leading by example, with the kind of bipartisan leadership our commonwealth needs for growth and progress. They have especially demonstrated their commitment to the SouthCoast, from improvements to our state pier, and taking a significant step towards rail to Boston, after years of promises. Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito have championed Fall River and deserve our support for four more years," Correia said in the statement.

Correia was one of 10 Democratic members to be included in the release.

“Lt. Governor Polito and I are grateful for the support of these mayors, who represent a diverse array of strong, thriving communities from all parts of Massachusetts,” Baker said in a statement. “Since taking office, we have prioritized collaborative relationships with local leaders, to give them the tools and flexibility to help their communities grow and succeed. We look forward to working with these mayors from both sides of the aisle to continue that approach in a second term.”

While the Baker-Polito team was touting the endorsement, Correia is the only mayor from a Bristol County city to currently lend their support to the incumbents.

“As former selectmen, Governor Baker and I have a deep appreciation for the hard work of local elected officials, which is why we continue to build effective partnerships with them,” Polito said in a statement. “Having visited and signed agreements with each of our 351 cities and towns, I know firsthand that people measure success by what’s happening in their communities, not on Beacon Hill. We’re proud to have taken an approach that recognizes and celebrates that fact.”
