The Vadapalani police on Thursday arrested two persons, including a transgender for allegedly robbing a businessman after luring him, under the pretext of offering sex, to a hotel in Vadapalani.
The police said a group runs a mobile phone application for gays, including facilitating chats between persons who express interest. The Vellore-based businessman, the police said, approached them over the application to facilitate a meeting.
On his arrival in Chennai, he was picked up by the two in a motorcycle near Ram Theatre, Kodambakkam, and was taken to a hotel. When he was exiting, after the rendezvous, the two asked him for more money. When he refused to pay, they threatened to circulate the video of his sexual act. A quarrel erupted between them and he was roughed up, and his cash and valuables were stolen. He registered a complaint with Vadapalani police.
The Vadapalani crime wing arrested Thangaraj, 24, and Kavi alias Kaviarasu, 30, on charges of robbery and remanded them in judicial custody. The police are investigating if the duo has cheated any other person using similar methods.
