A decade ago or so, if a village had a teacher, it also had a guide in him/her. Has that changed with the changing times?
“Not really,” said Pula Ravinder, MLC from teacher’s constituency. “Even with technological advancement, the respect for teachers has not gone done a bit as they work as hard as before,” he added.
In Nalgonda, about 146 government schools have excelled with 100% pass percentage, 114 students have scored 10 out of 10 grades and the overall success rate of 86% is the proof that teachers are committed and hard-working, he asserted.
Celebrating the 130th birth anniversary of India’s second president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, being observed as Teachers’ Day since 1962, teachers and public representatives spoke on teaching and its impact on students here on Wednesday. The venue wore a festive look with students’ dance and cultural performances, dignitaries’ speeches and awards to teachers.
For Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukender Reddy, learning in school and college was ‘season-dependent’ (March and September, indicating supplementary exam calendar).
“All my education was in Zilla Parishad school and in Telugu medium. But education came to me as a necessity after I entered public life – to read and reply correspondence in English. It also taught me to prepare my subject before addressing any meet,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Police Superintendent A.V. Ranganath said education and healthcare were the two aspects required for any society’s progress.
Later, District Collector Gaurav Uppal presented best teacher award to teachers.
Celebrations at NTPC
