Two men charged with murder after body found in Wangaratta

The search for missing Wangaratta man Nathan Day has come to a tragic end with a body found at a home and two men in custody.

A 59-year-old man and a 42-year-old man were arrested and charged on Wednesday night with one count of murder each after a man's body was found at a Ryan Avenue property in Wangaratta.

The pair were remanded to appear at Wangaratta Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.

Detectives found the man's body about 4.20pm on Wednesday and worked into the night at the home. The property is about 200 metres from the house where Mr Day was last seen on July 26.

Police also set up a crime scene guard at the Morrell Street property.

A friend had reported Mr Day missing 10 days after he was seen leaving the home.

He had not used his bank account or phone, which led to a major search involving local detectives, the Missing Persons Squad and SES volunteers.

The body was removed from the Ryan Avenue unit about 7.10pm.

Day had recently been involved in a drunken incident at the property where bricks and other items were thrown inside, and the occupant was injured.

Forensic officers appear to have focused their attention on a small section of the property's yard and used shovels to dig up the area.

The body has not been formally identified, and the cause of death is yet to be determined.

Mr Day's family last week issued an emotional plea for public help to find him.

His mother Marilyn Chambers had asked the 34-year-old to make contact.
