BIHARSHARIF: A minor inmate of Biharsharif-based
shelter home for boys died during treatment at Biharsharif sadar hospital on Tuesday. Treating doctor Anjani Kumar said the deceased, Chhotu, died due to anaemia but he refused to comment on whether it was a case of malnutrition or not.
Nalanda DM Thiyagarajan SM said, “The 15-year-old minor was ill when he came here from Gaya in May last year. He had undergone blood transfusion at the sadar hospital here on August 6 and was again admitted to the hospital on September 1. However, he could not survive.”
The DM said medical check-ups and inspection of food quality and educational progress of 47 (now 46) inmates, including 21 physically challenged are done on weekly basis. He said Biharsharif SDM JP Agrawal has been enturusted with the responsibility to ensure that the shelter home should run according to stipulated guidelines.
However, there was an eerie silence at the shelter home on Wednesday and the inmates were not ready to speak on Chhotu's illness, while its secretary Abhishek Bhartiya said district child welfare committee (CWC) solely manages the affairs of the shelter home.
